Wilhelmina Hospital Assen (WZA) provides specialist medical care each year to more than 200,000 patients from the Drenthe region, with approximately 1,600 employees, and places a strong emphasis on improving care and implementing innovations. With a view to creating a future-proof hospital, WZA commissioned the construction of a completely new and state-of-the-art operating theatre complex in 2021. This complex comprises of six operating theatres equipped with the latest technology (including an innovative air handling system), a recovery area and a fully new surgical day care centre. Partly because the existing operating theatres had to remain in use during the works, the project involved a large-scale and highly complex renovation. Following an intensive construction period, the operating theatres were delivered in April 2023 and the surgical day care centre in December 2023. Duet advised WZA throughout the execution phase of this project on a wide range of construction law matters, including issues relating to variations and final completion.
